Japanese Cigarette Pack Label Glossary

Use this glossary when a Japanese cigarette search remembers one word, number or package format but not the complete product name. Each term is tied to an existing photographed guide rather than treated as a new product.

Five label fields that belong together

A reliable match uses more than colour. Keep the master brand, line or variant name, printed number, package format and market-version wording together until the photographed page is confirmed.

1. Master brand

Mevius, Seven Stars, Peace, Marlboro Japan, Camel Japan and Hi-Lite lead to separate brand clusters.

2. Line or variant

Words such as Extra Lights, Ice Storm, Black Menthol, Blossom or Purple Burst distinguish products inside a brand.

3. Printed mg value

Use the displayed number as a catalog identifier. It is not a personal exposure measurement, health grade or safety score.

4. Format wording

King Size, 100s, slim, box, soft pack and tin describe packaging or physical format; they do not replace the product name.

5. Market or edition wording

JP Version, KR Version, NEW or E-Series can separate two otherwise similar names. Preserve the wording shown by the exact guide.

Term families

Read descriptive words as clues, not automatic equivalences

Lights family

Lights, Super Lights and Extra Lights are catalog line words. Keep the complete line and number; do not collapse them into one generic light product.

Menthol and capsule family

Menthol, Option, Burst, Fusion and Double may appear in names, but the exact photographed page determines the represented product. A name alone does not prove unstated ingredients.

Pearl and Hybrid

These words appear in some TEREA names. TEREA is documented separately as a heated-tobacco category rather than a conventional cigarette pack.

Next step

Turn a partial label into one canonical page

Write down every readable word and number, identify the market family, then use the package-identification checklist. If spelling varies, check the brand-name spelling guide instead of assuming there should be another URL.

Japanese Cigarette Pack Label Glossary FAQ

What should I read first on a Japanese cigarette pack?

Start with the master brand, then retain the complete line or variant name, printed number and any format or market-version wording.

Does the printed mg number identify how safe a cigarette is?

No. This website uses the printed number only to distinguish catalog variants; it is not a safety, exposure or health rating.

Are Lights, Super Lights and Extra Lights the same product?

No. They can be separate catalog line names with different printed numbers and photographed packages.

Does a purple or blue pack colour identify one exact product?

No. Several pages can share a colour family. Confirm the complete printed wording, number and permanent product photo.

Where should I check current availability after identifying a pack?

Use the live catalog after the exact permanent guide has been identified, because price and availability can change.
